Empower Her is very excited to announce this years GIRLS Scholarship recipients are: Ellery Campbell from Wallingford and Karen Gomez from Meriden. Ellery and Karen have each received a $400 scholarship award. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Ellery Campbell, a senior at Lyman Hall High School, was a multiple sport athlete, served as captain on two teams and won awards based on her sportsmanship and as a scholar athlete. Ellery was the member and leader of many clubs in high school and participated in a variety of community service. Ellery is passionate about female equality, especially in sports and has already made her mark on speaking out against discrimination. Ellery would like to become a politician who works to restore a voice to those who have been silenced for far too long. Ellery will be attending Brown University majoring in Economics or Accounting with a minor in Political Science.
Karen Gomez, a senior at Francis T. Maloney High School, has been involved in soccer and various and clubs throughout her high school career and has dedicated herself to various community service initiatives. Karen has received Distinguished Honors, Student of the Month, and recognition for receiving one of the highest grades in a college-level course out of all participating students nationally. Her goal is to become a pediatric pulmonologist, but would like to become a nurse first to save money to go back to school and continue her education to become a pediatric pulmonologist. She will focus on being a Spanish-proficient nurse as she feels she can help more people. Karen is a first generation American and her family is certain to be proud of her accomplishments. Karen will be attending Quinnipiac University and will major in Nursing.
