GIRLS Scholarship Recipients 2020

Empower Her is very excited to announce this years recipients are: Jade Smith from Branford, Kaitlyn Nolan from Wallingford and Zoe O’Neil from Milford. Please read more about them below.

Jade Smith, a senior at Branford High School, was a member of multiple honor societies and various clubs throughout her four years in high school. She was captain of her cheerleading team and she won the 2020 SCC Coaches Merit Award for demonstrating excellence in academics, leadership and service. Jade’s community service experience included “Feed Our Neighbors”, which packaged and sent meals to those in need in Haiti, and mentoring an underprivileged child affected by AIDS at Camp Totokett. Jade is passionate about providing emotional support to children in need. Jade will be attending UCONN and majoring in Business.

Kaitlyn Nolan, a senior at Lyman Hall High School, has been involved in various sports and clubs throughout her high school career including mentoring children hoping to give them life skills and values such as maturity, kindness and honesty. Kaitlyn was a Varsity Scholar Athlete participating on the Lacrosse, Field Hockey and Basketball Teams. Kaitlyn has volunteered at many organizations in the health field and working with youth and has earned multiple volunteer service awards. Kaitlyn will be attending Fairfield University and will major in Nursing. 

Zoe O’Neil, a senior at Jonathan Law High School also attended the Educational Center for the Arts (ECA) in New Haven. She was a member of multiple honor societies as well as Big Sibs which is a mentorship program pairing students to provide guidance and support. Zoe spent many hours volunteering at ECA and was also chosen to be a student director at the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards conference. Zoe considers herself an advocate for women’s health and sees the importance in educating herself and others on advocacy in healthcare, especially for women. She is excited to go into the arts field and work towards making arts education more accessible to girls. Zoe will attend Emerson College and major in Media Arts.
